Exploring NYC this weekend: A Day Trip to Brooklyn Bridge and Chinatown

Today, we're feeling ambitious and taking a day trip to Chinatown, Manhattan from our home in Brooklyn. But the subway is boring and taking it into the city is too close to work vibes - so we're switching it up.

Check out that handy Citibike and make your way to Downtown Brooklyn. There's tons of stations in this area but closest to our destination is: Cadman Plaza E & Red Cross Pl

Once here, it's walking time and we're headed up and over the Brooklyn Bridge. Follow the signs for the walking path and make your way up.

The walk is approximately 1.5 miles and if you walk straight through should take 35 min. But you've got a full day to fill, stop chill and take some pictures with the tourists.

Once across, you'll find yourself in not just another borough but another world - Chinatown. If you haven't been here before be sure to walk around. It's a huge area with tons of cute streets. The main tourist drag is between Canal/Pell and Centre/Bowery. You can see more local restaurants and shops by walking along East Broadway instead. I lived here my first year in NYC, so this time around we came strictly for the food.

Try soup dumplings at Joe Shanghai. Go for the instagram pics at Nom Wah Tea Parlor. Stop for an Almond Cookie, Ube and/or Black Sesame scoop at Chinatown Ice Cream Factory. Or where ever you like! There are tons of restaurants here and for the most part you can't go wrong.

Once stuffed and in need of a nap - we picked up some frozen dumplings from Vanessa's Dumpling House (25 for $11) to enjoy another day and took the train back to Brooklyn. Day trip complete!
